July is the great month for live music in the province of Girona and on the Costa Brava. Throughout the summer, especially between early July and mid-August, castles, gardens and open-air auditoriums host some of the most renowned summer festivals in Catalonia.
From Girona, it is easy to reach all of them, making the city a perfect base for combining concerts and sightseeing.
The most important summer festivals on the Costa Brava

Many of the province’s leading festivals take place on the Costa Brava and in the Empordà, just a short distance from Girona.
- The Peralada Festival takes place at the Peralada Castle between July and early August, with a programme combining opera, classical music, dance and major international voices.
- The Cap Roig Festival, held in the botanical gardens of Calella de Palafrugell, runs from mid-July to late August and brings together national and international pop, rock and singer-songwriter artists on a seaside stage.
- The Porta Ferrada Festival, in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, is one of the oldest festivals in Catalonia and runs throughout the summer with rock, pop, jazz and alternative music concerts.
- The Ítaca Festival takes place across different towns on the Costa Brava and in the Empordà, featuring indie, electronic and pop music concerts in unique settings such as beaches, squares and castles.
Live music also in the city of Girona
Although the city of Girona does not host a large-scale summer music festival like those on the Costa Brava, the local calendar in July includes concerts and music series in various venues, squares and cultural spaces.
This programme complements the major festivals in the province and allows visitors to enjoy live music without leaving the city, combining nearby concerts with Girona’s cultural life.
Hotel Carlemany, a base for summer festivals
Hotel Carlemany, located in the centre of Girona, is an ideal base for exploring the province’s festivals. From the hotel, Peralada, Calella de Palafrugell and Sant Feliu de Guíxols can all be reached by car in under an hour.
After each concert, you can return to Girona to relax in a peaceful setting, enjoy its gastronomy and make the most of the city during the day.
